Awareness on Newborn Screening

Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) are genetic disorders caused by a single-gene defect that disrupts crucial metabolic pathways. This leads to harmful buildup of substances or lack of essential products in the body.

“Care for the Rare” at SGPGIMS Lucknow (Feb 29, 2020) promoted early diagnosis, access to care, and newborn screening through resources, referrals, and interactive community sessions.

AIIMS Delhi marked Newborn Screening Awareness Month with outreach and expanded coverage, emphasizing 24–48 hour testing, faster follow‑ups, and clear paths to confirmatory care.
